Actress Stacey Dash Draws More Criticism for Joining FOX News

Stacy DashFox News will get a dash of color with the addition of Clueless star, Stacey Dash. In a press release, the network announced Wednesday, that the actress will offer “cultural analysis and commentary across daytime and primetime programs.”
The network’s executive vice president, Bill Shine, made the announcement in a prepared statement.
“Stacey is an engaging conversationalist whose distinctive viewpoints amongst her Hollywood peers have spawned national debates – we’re pleased to have her join FOX News,” he said.

Dash, whose resume also includes the television show Single Ladies and movies Renaissance Man and View from the Top sparked controversy in 2012 when she said she regretted voting for President Obama in 2008 and endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on her personal Twitter account. Since the election, she has continued make her opinions on pop culture, politics and national news heard via social media.

The actress has been a regular guest on several of the network’s shows since making her controversial Twitter posts. She’s also received her share of criticism for her cultural commentary. She drew criticism for supporting Paula Deen after the Food Network star’s racial slur debacle, criticizing Jay Z and Beyonce for visiting Cuba, and speaking out against Oprah Winfrey’s comments about Trayvon Martin’s death.

The announcement has already been met with a variety of reactions from disappointment to anticipation. The Twittersphere is abuzz with comments on the Dash’s decision to join FOX News. Some Twitter users have offered congratulations on the new gig, while others have expressed their disdain and resentment with insults.

One user, @iDigitalDan says, “What a pathetic loser waste of space. Patrick on Spongebob Squarepants has more sense.”
After her comments on 2012 election, Dash made several television appearances, including as a guest panelist on The View where she had the opportunity to discuss the reaction she received. During time on the show she opined that the majority of the negative was a result of the perceived idea that because she’s a black woman, she should vote for a black president.

For many her addition to FOX News comes as no surprise. Dash has openly been a conservative for two years, and she’s taken a lot of heat because of the revelation, but joining the network that expresses its far right views has angered some while pleasing others.

The backlash has opened the door for another liberal-conservative argument with the conservative side accusing liberals of spewing hate at the actress for joining the conservative network.

“Just like clockwork. Progressive liberal Democrat racists are spewing their hate at Stacey Dash over becoming a Fox News contributor,” says one conservative website, which posted several Twitter users’ comments beneath its blurb.

The actress took the comments in stride, even retweeting some of the most negative comments on her own Twitter feed without lashing out at the people who appear to be her harshest critics. She has demonstrated she can keep up with the right-wingers when it comes to criticism from Hollywood and the general public. It remains to be seen if she will flourish as the newest addition to Fox News.
