Sandra Bullock, a Hollywood Oscar-winner, has ridden the success of Gravity to be the highest paid female actor, according to Forbes. The 50-year-old actress earned $51 million over the past 12 months. She is the leader of the Forbes list ahead of Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Aniston, due largely to the box office of Alfonso Cuarón’s movie.

The sci-fi drama cost more than $100 million to produce, but the movie turned out to be one of the most successful films of 2013. Being a rare, critical, and commercially successful motion picture, Gravity took $716 million at the global box office. The movie was nominated for 10 Oscar awards and won seven of them, including a Best Actress nomination for Bullock.

Although Bullock did not win for Best Actress, she had a deal for a share of Gravity’s profits, which netted her a lot of money. Bullock ultimately lost the Oscar to Blue Jasmine‘s Cate Blanchett. In 2013, Bullock was also a co-star in the blockbuster hit, The Heat, which grossed $229 million. Back in 2010, when she had a role in The Proposal and won the Best Actress Oscar for The Blind Side, the 50-year-old star topped the highest paid female actor list with an estimated $56 million.

Forbes projected that Jennifer Lawrence acquired $34 million over the past year. She was ranked second among the highest paid Hollywood actresses. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took approximately $860 million at the global box office. Surprisingly, Lawrence obtained less than $1 million in comparison to the franchise’s first movie, despite the initial movie’s success. However, she can demand a share of future backend profits.

With $31 million earned between June 2013 and June 2014, Jennifer Aniston was ranked third among highest paid actresses. She is focusing on smaller-budgeted movies and it is working for her. Last year, she had a role on comedies like Horrible Bosses and We’re The Millers. Horrible Bosses 2, with Aniston in it, is scheduled to debut in November 2014. The difference between highest paid Hollywood woman Bullock and third-place earner Aniston is $25 million. Gwyneth Paltrow, who placed fourth among earners, had a $19 million profit over the year. Kristen Stewart was the leader of the list over the past two years, however, with the end of the Twilight franchise, she slipped down to 10th place and earned $12 million for 2014.

Despite Bullock’s impressive earnings, women are still making less money than men in the mainstream. Forbes’ top ten actors combined to $419 million in earnings, while the top ten women made $226 million during the same time period. For the second year in a row, Robert Downey Jr. tops the men’s list. The star of Iron Man and Avengers gained $75 million over the past 12 months. Marvel films starring Downey Jr. have earned approximately $4 billion at the global box office, which has discouraged the company from releasing the actor to do other projects outside of the Marvel franchise.

Thanks to Fast and Furious franchise, Dwayne Johnson was ranked second among the earners on the list. The former wrestler made an estimated $52 million between June 2013 and June 2014. Bradley Cooper was third because of his $46 million earnings received from The Hangover movies and Oscar-nominated American Hustle. On a combined list of highest paid Hollywood women and men, Sandra Bullock would have captured third place as well.
