A tornado warning has been issued for Feb. 23, 2016, by the New Orléans National Weather Service. Louisiana cities that could be impacted include Destrehan, Norco, New Sarpy, Central St. Charles Parish. This warning will last until 11:45 a.m. CST. The National Weather Service states that people in these areas should take cover immediately. Move to the basement or bottom floor and keep away from windows.
At 10:43 a.m., a severe thunderstorm started in the area. The storm is capable of creating conditions that could most likely produce a tornado. This storm started over Bayou Gauche, 10 miles south of Hahnville and is moving north at 30 mph.
The storm will hit multiple cities at these predicted times:
Luling and Boutte – 11:00 a.m.
Taft and Hahnville – 11:05 a.m.
New Sarpy, Destrehan, Norco, St. Rose, and Ama – 11:10
The impact of the thunderstorm and possible tornado will put those who are not inside in danger. There will be flying debris, damage to windows, roofs, and vehicles, and trees. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Take shelter immediately. The National Weather Service reports that people in these areas should go to their basement or an interior room on the bottom floor.
Head to sturdy shelter and stay away from the windows. Those who are in mobile homes and vehicles should move to the closest and most protective shelter available.
Update: The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central Yazoo County in Central Mississippi until 5:15 p.m. CST. The Thunderstorm that went through Southern Louisiana has moved to Mississippi and is still moving northeast at 30 mph. This storm will affect Little Yazoo, Myrleville, Benton, Vaughn, and Bentonia.
The National Weather Service is encouraging everyone in these areas to stay inside, preferably in the basement or first floor, away from the windows. Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe. Find a sturdy shelter.
